Inter Milan have confirmed that they will speak with defender Francesco Acerbi to understand yesterday’s alleged racism incident.

The club released an official statement acknowledging the ongoing incident surrounding the 36-year-old during yesterday’s Serie A match against Napoli.

Inter defender Acerbi was at the heart of a controversial incident during yesterday’s Serie A match between Inter and Napoli.

Napoli defender Juan Jesus told referee Federico La Penna that he had been racially abused by Acerbi.

The Brazilian told the referee that the Inter player had used a racist slur.

The consequences for this incident could be very serious. Acerbi could face a lengthy ban if an investigation finds that he racially abused Jesus.

The former Lazio and Sassuolo defender has also left the Italy squad after speaking with Azzurri coach Luciano Spalletti about yesterday’s incident.

Inter have now also officially acknowledged yesterday’s incident.

In addition, Acerbi could also face punishment from his club. This would depend on the club’s internal investigation.

And Inter have indicated that they are ready to begin such an investigation.

The club made the announcement, “FC Internazionale Milano takes note of the press release made by the FIGC relating to the facts concerning Francesco Acerbi during last night’s match against Napoli.”

“And of the fact that the FIGC and Acerbi have agreed on the player’s non-participation in the next two friendly matches with the national team in the United States.”

The club continues, “FC Internazionale Milano will meet with the player as soon as possible to shed light on the exact details of what happened last night.”
