Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is “calm” on the prospect of Inter Milan clinching the Serie A title against his old team AC Milan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, Calhanoglu also reiterated his desire to stay at Inter for a long time.

Inter are currently fourteen points clear of city rivals AC Milan at the top of the Serie A table.

That whopping margin has certainly created the impression that it is now a matter of “when” rather than “if” the Nerazzurri are to clinch the Serie A title.

The next few matches could see Inter make it mathematically certain that they’ll finish the season as champions.

And next month, Inter have a very big fixture coming up.

The Nerazzurri face city rivals AC Milan in the second derby of the season.

Hakan Calhanoglu “Calm” On Prospect Of Inter Clinching Title Vs AC Milan

So it seems like a very real possibility that Inter could clinch the title with a result against their city rivals.

One player who derbies like next month’s always mean something more to is Calhanoglu.

The Turkish international joined Inter from Milan in the summer of 2021.

And whilst Calhanoglu has hardly regretted making the cross-city jump, it did lead to one major moment of embarrassment for the ex-Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg midfielder.

This came at the end of Calhanoglu’s first season at the Nerazzurri.

The Turk, who had joined Inter at a time when they were reigning Serie A champions, had to watch his former team the Rossoneri clinch the title on the final day of the season.

So this time around, Calhanoglu could aim to get the last laugh. He could win the Serie A title for the first time as a player, and do so against his former Milan team.

Calhanoglu said that “There’s not too long left for the Scudetto.”

“But there are still important matches to come,” the midfielder added.

As far as whether Inter could clinch the title against Milan, Calhanoglu said “Let’s see.”

“I’m calm,” he added. “The whole team is calm. We’re just focusing on ourselves.”

As far as elimination from the Champions League, Calhanoglu said that “We tried.”

“But football is like that. We’ll try again next season.”

Asked whether he will stay at Inter, Calhanoglu replied “Yes. Certainly.”
