Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson has cooled some of the rumours about his future amid strong links to Inter Milan.

The 26-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after his team’s 1-1 draw against Frosinone. He suggested that he could still decide to stay with Genoa next season.

Gudmundsson is a player whose future has been subject to a lot of speculation.

The Icelandic international has certainly been one of the outstanding players outside of the top teams in Serie A this season.

Gudmundsson’s goal from the penalty spot against Frosinone was his eleventh in Serie A for the campaign. The former AZ Alkmaar man has also made three assists in the league.

Big teams in Serie A as well as elsewhere are therefore starting to eye Gudmundsson.

Perhaps no club has been the subject of stronger links to the Icelander than Inter.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri’s Serie A rivals Juventus reportedly also want to sign Gudmundsson. As do Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

Reports have suggested that a summer transfer is very much on the cards for Gudmundsson.

The player’s age in addition to the form he has been in have made it look likely that Genoa would have a hard time keeping hold of the 26-year-old.

The Grifone would, therefore, hope to cash in to the greatest extent possible on a sale of Gudmundsson.

But, at the same time, a summer transfer is hardly a foregone conclusion for Gudmundsson.

Genoa have already shown their ambition with some of their transfer business since returning to Serie A. And retaining a player like Gudmundsson would certainly be in line with that.

Speaking about his future, Gudmundsson commented that “Genoa is a prestigious club.”

“And I believe that I can do big things next season with this club,” he went on.

“It’s a club with a lot of history, and it was necessary to find stability in Serie A,” the Icelandic international said.

“Let’s remember we’re still a newly-promoted team.”
