Fiorentina wingback Michael Kayode is Inter Milan’s top target to replace Denzel Dumfries should the Dutchman leave this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that the Nerazzurri could offer one or two young players as part of a deal for the 19-year-old.

Kayode has been one of the breakout talents in Serie A over the course of the season so far.

The teenage right-back had not made an appearance in the Italian top flight part of this season.

However, Kayode has made nineteen appearances in the league for La Viola. He has arguably become the first-choice starter on the right for the Tuscans.

And Kayode’s performances have belied the player’s age and lack of experience.

The 19-year-old has looked assured defensively, and also made an impact going forward.

Inter Make Michael Kayode First-Choice Denzel Dumfries Replacement

The form that Kayode has shown this season has made the Italian a natural target for Inter, the Gazzetta report.

The 19-year-old has shown that he is capable of playing a two-way role on the right flank. This would make him naturally-suited to the wingback role in Inter’s system.

And it is quite possible that the Nerazzurri will be in the market for a right-wingback this summer.

That is because at the moment, the future of 27-year-old Dutch international Dumfries is up in the air.

At the moment, Dumfries’s contract with Inter runs out at the end of June 2025.

And the Nerazzurri have no intention of having Dumfries go into the final year of his deal.

Therefore, if Dumfries does not sign an extension, Inter will aim to sell the former PSV wingback this summer.

If Dumfries does head for the exit door, the Gazzetta report, Kayode would be Inter’s top target to replace him.

Convincing Fiorentina to part with the young Italian will not be easy. But the Gazzetta report that Inter’s plan could be to offer young players going the other way in addition to cash.
