Inter Milan are ready to move to sign Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso on a free transfer this summer.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri are preparing a four-year contract for the 28-year-old.

Inter are in the lookout for a player to reinforce their defense during the summer transfer window.

The Nerazzurri’s plan is to sign a defender who is versatile and has experience playing in a back three.

There are a couple of roles that the club want to fill.

One is in the centre of the defense. Currently, Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi are the two “specialists” in that role.

The duo of former Lazio defenders have both had strong seasons, helping Inter to an outstanding defensive record in Serie A.

However, de Vrj and Acerbi turned 32 and 36 respectively during the current season. So Inter want to plan for the future.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri would aim for a player with the versatility to play a wide role in the back three.

With Alesandro Bastoni occasionally out with injury and frequently a second half substitution, Inter would be keen to bolster depth on the left side of the defense.

Inter Ready To Swoop For Atletico Madrid Defender Mario Hermoso

Atletico defender Hermoso is a player who would tick Inter’s boxes, according to the Gazzetta.

The former Espanyol defender has largely played on the left of a back three for Atletico.

However, the Gazzetta reports, Inter also believe that Hermoso could play more centrally.

The Spaniard does have the qualities that the club are looking for as far as defending the penalty area.

And the Gazzetta report that Inter’s interest in Hermoso is more than just a passing consideration.

The Nerazzurri are readying their offer to the 28-year-old.

Inter would offer Hermoso a four-year deal until the end of June 2028. This would be worth 5 million net per season plus add-ons.
