Simone Inzaghi has had the Inter Milan squad in a weekend retreat prior to the team’s Serie A match against Empoli tomorrow.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that the Nerazzurri coach wants to avoid all distractions ahead of the Serie A title run-in.

Tomorrow evening, Inter return to Serie A action after two weeks away.

Over the last couple of weeks, the international break has seen much of the Nerazzurri’s squad away with their national teams.

And those players who did not get national team call-ups have stayed back to train and rest.

But it has been a far from quiet or uneventful break for Inter.

The Nerazzurri have seen defender Francesco Acerbi embroiled in a firestorm regarding his alleged racial abuse of Napoli’s Juan Jesus.

An investigation found the Inter defender not guilty of the offense. But it still served as a major distraction.

And then there is the matter of uncertainty regarding Inter’s owners.

With a deadline looming on a loan from Oaktree Capital, the sense is that this is a key turning point for Suning at Inter – and potentially the end of the road.

Inzaghi Brings Inter Into Weekend Retreat Ahead Of Empoli Clash

Inter coach Inzaghi’s priority has been to shift the squad’s mentality right back to Serie A.

There would be a bit of a risk of a sort of “international break hangover.”

That is always the case after the players come back from their national teams. Keeping the chemistry and continuity is not always easy with such interruptions.

And the last couple weeks prior to the break were also tough ones for Inter.

The Nerazzurri were dumped out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid.

And then Inter’s winning run in Serie A came to an end against Napoli.

The sense now is still very much that it is only a matter of time before the Nerazzurri clinch the title. But there is always the risk of complacency.

So Inzaghi has brought the entire squad together for the weekend.

The Inter coach wants to immediately jump-start a positive run-in for the season. He wants the team to reassert themselves on the pitch and win the title in relatively dominant fashion.
