Simone Inzaghi has told Inter Milan’s squad that winning is the best cure for off-pitch issues ahead of the team’s Serie A clash with Empoli.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

The last few weeks have seen Inter’s season take a turn towards a gloomier mood.

Part of the reason has been the results on the pitch.

The Nerazzurri had won thirteen matches in a row across all competitions to begin 2024. But the two matches before the break saw that run come to an end.

First there was the heartbreak of crashing out of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid.

Inter had fairly comprehensively beaten the Colchoneros in the first leg of their round of sixteen tie.

But in the second, the Nerazzurri crumbled and were eliminated in a penalty shootout.

Next up, there was the matter of the draw against Napoli before the break.

That match saw Inter squander a 1-0 lead late on, having to settle for a point.

It wasn’t a disastrous result for Inter’s Serie A title push by any means. But there was an event that overshadowed the result.

Napoli defender Juan Jesus alleged that his Inter counterpart Francesco Acerbi had racially abused him.

Acerbi vehemently denied the use of any discriminatory language. And the result of the investigation did vindicate the 36-year-old in a certain sense, finding him not guilty.

However, there has still been a significant amount of controversy that has lingered from that firestorm.

Inzaghi Gives Message To Inter – Winning The Best Cure For Off-Pitch Issues Vs Empoli

From the perspective of Inter coach Inzaghi, there’s little to do except think about the next match.

Inter have had an entire international break to dwell on matters both on and off the pitch.

This has really prolonged the sense that Inter’s momentum has let up significantly.

But there would be one quick and simple way to change that. Inter return to Serie A action this evening at the San Siro.

Playing in front of their fans at the San Siro, the Nerazzurri have a chance to send a message. Both to themselves and to Serie A.

Inzaghi wants Inter to remind the rest of the league why they are in the position they’re in, fourteen points clear at the top of the Serie A table.

Only in this way, the coach feels, can the team brush aside the distractions that have taken their season off course.
