Sebastien Frey believes that goalkeeper Yann Sommer has brought “experience and silent leadership” to Inter Milan this season.

Former French international Frey praised Sommer in the Inter Milan matchday programme ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash between the Nerazzurri and Empoli.

Sommer joined Inter from Bayern Munich last summer.

The 35-year-old had the difficult task of replacing Andre Onana. However, Onana left Inter after just one season.

Meanwhile, the Cameroonian left his mark. He played a key role en-route to the Champions League Final.

Subsequently, that form earned Onana a move to Manchester United. And Inter went the route of veteran experience in replacing Onana.

Meanwhile, Sommer is a player who had been on the Nerazzurri’s radar for some time. The Swiss had been carving out a reputation for himself with Basel and Borussia Monchengladbach for over a decade.

Sebastian Frey Praises “Experience & Silent Leadership” Of Yann Sommer At Inter

It’s safe to say that Sommer has been the player Inter hoped he would be.

The former Bayern and Gladbach keeper has demonstrated his excellent reflexes and anticipation with a number of great saves.

Therefore, Sommer’s consistent performances have been a bedrock upon which Inter have built a dominant Serie A campaign.

Frey said of Sommer that “He’s a goalkeeper of great experience.”

He called the 35-year-old “A silent leader who transmits calm to his teammates.”

“The defense as a whole has great numbers,” Frey added. “And that’s thanks to the entire team.”

Former Nerazzurri and Fiorentina keeper Frey said that “I like this Inter a lot.”

“Because I see a winning project and a competitive team.”

“There are a lot of players who have amazed me,” Frey continued. “I think Calhanoglu has evolved brilliantly.”

In conclusion, Frey stated: “He’s reached a level of great maturity. Now he’s one of the best players in the world in his position.”
