Atletico Madrid are reportedly preparing to launch an onslaught for Alessandro Buongiorno which would serve as a blow for Inter Milan.

The 24-year-old is a Torino youth product who has gradually cemented himself as a pillar for both club and country.

In recent months, he has emerged as a transfer target for the Nerazzurri. Some sources claim Beppe Marotta and company are eager to bring him to Appiano Gentile in the summer to bolster Simone Inzaghi’s backline.

Moreover, Inter’s crosstown rivals AC Milan have also set their sights on the Italian centre-back.

But according to Italian journalist Orazio Accomando, Atletico Madrid are looking to overtake the two Serie A giants.

The DAZN reporter claims Diego Simeone has placed Buongiorno on top of his defensive shortlist.

“There will be a bidding war for Buongiorno. Milan and Inter have never hidden their interest in the defender,” posted Accomando on his X account.

“The Rossoneri in particular have already tested the waters. The central defender, however, is Simeone’s first name to strengthen the defense of Atletico Madrid.”

The Argentine manager will likely lose the services of Mario Hermoso whose contract will expire at the end of the season. Curiously, the 28-year-old defender is a transfer target for the Nerazzurri.

Just like Hermoso, the Torino star is a left-footed defender capable of playing either on the left or at the center of the back three.

The Italy international made 24 appearances for the Granata this season between Serie A and Coppa Italia. He scored three goals and produced one assist.
