Inter Milan need the “real” Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram if they’re to have a memorable finale to their season.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

At this stage, the Serie A title looks to be little more than a formality for Inter.

The Nerazzurri will not let their guard down or become complacent as long as they’ve yet to formally clinch the Scudetto. But it is more of a matter of “when” than “if.”

However, even after Inter finally secure the title mathematically speaking, whenever they do so, there will still be plenty left to fight for.

For one, there is the derby against AC Milan in a couple weeks’ time.

Clashes with the Rossoneri are always a significant affair. That’s the case no matter the situation with trophies and the league table.

A win in the derby would add one more positive to what’s been an almost flawless season – in the league at least. And a loss would hurt, with or without the title.

Then there is the matter of the points total.

Inter could still hit triple digits this season. A hundred points is well within reach – and would see Inter break their all-time club record of 97 in a single season.

Inter Need The “Real” Lautaro & Thuram To Finish Season With A Bang

Over much of the season to date, Inter have relied on their strikers to get them the goals to fly to the top of the league table.

Captain Lautaro Martinez has scored 23 goals in Serie A this season. And Marcus Thuram has scored a further ten.

But neither of those two have gotten on the scoresheet for Inter since February.

In the meantime, other players have picked up the slack.

Goals from defenders Federico Dimarco and Yann Bisseck, midfielder Kristjan Asllani, and backup forward Alexis Sanchez have been sufficient to keep the results coming in – along with the Nerazzurri’s formidable defense.

But the sense is that Inter will need their main men in front of goal to start firing again soon.
