Former Inter Milan wingback Robin Gosens still has some fond memories of his time in Italy, but is enjoying more playing now this season.

The 29-year-old rose to fame during his time at Atalanta, which led to a move to Inter in January 2022.

However, a combination of injuries and strong competition limited his playing minutes at Simone Inzaghi’s court.

Therefore, Gosens made his return to his home country of Germany last summer, signing a deal with Union Berlin.

The German capital side started the campaign on an abysmal note, but their results improved following a managerial change.

For his part, Gosens is happy to be featuring as a regular starter, unlike his time at Inter. Nevertheless, he still has good memories of his stint in Milan.

“I’m fine at Union, even if things aren’t going as we would have liked,” said the Germany international in his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“We had different expectations, but our objective now is to avoid relegation.

“On a personal level, I’m happy to play consistently, something I wasn’t able to do at Inter.

“But of course I miss Italy. I’m German, but I also feel a bit Italian. My mentality is Italian.

“Living there was magical. I have excellent memories both in Bergamo, where I left my heart, and in Milan.”

Finally, Gosens admitted he would aim for a Serie A return if he decides to leave his current club.

“It’s early to talk about my future. Now it’s time to think about saving Union. Then there will be the European Championship.

“Only then will I organize my thoughts and decide the best path for my career and my family.

“If I decide to change teams, I will only do it for an Italian club.”
