Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu have been named as Inter Milan’s two most important players on the way to the Serie A title.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, rated the pair’s campaigns at a flawless 10/10 each.

Inter have needed to be firing on absolutely all cylinders to clinch the Serie A title with five matches to go.

And that means that there have been outstanding performances all over the pitch. Virtually the entire squad has shone at one point or another.

And the team as a whole has played at an extremely high level.

This is a testament to the work of Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi, who the Gazzetta award a 10/10 score for the season.

But two players in particularly have been right at the heart of Inter’s season, the Gazzetta argue.

Lautaro & Calhanoglu Inter’s Key Men In Serie A Title Triumph

Lautaro Martinez became Inter captain at the start of this season.

And the Argentine international has certainly given the right response to taking over the armband.

Martinez has scored 23 goals in Serie A so far.

The 26-year-old may be in the midst of his longest goal drought of the campaign. He has not scored since February.

However, over the months prior to that, Martinez was a relentlessly consistent force in front of goal.

This was key for Inter to pick up results at the pace they did.

Martinez always seemed to find ways to unlock matches for his team. This was embodied in his headed goal in a gritty 1-0 win over Fiorentina. Or his coming off the bench to score four goals in a tough away match against Salernitana.

Meanwhile, Martinez’s linkup play and defensive workrate have always set the tone for Inter.

Calhanoglu is the one player who has been just as important as Martinez for Inter, the Gazzetta argue.

The Turkish international came into the campaign as the Nerazzurri’s first-choice regista for the first time.

And Calhanoglu’s performances at the base of Inter’s midfield have been nothing short of outstanding.

The former AC Milan has been the man who sets the tempo for the Nerazzurri time and time again.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta rate Nicolo Barella’s, Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s, and Marcus Thuram’s seasons at 9/10.

Then, wingback Federico Dimarco receives a grade of 8.5/10.
