Inter Milan will target Fiorentina defender Michael Kayode if Denzel Dumfries leaves the club this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Dumfries is one player whose future at Inter currently looks very much up in the air.

The reason for this is the Dutchman’s contract situation.

Dumfries is currently under contract with Inter until the end of next June.

Therefore, if the 28-year-old were to go into next season without penning an extension, there would be a real chance of his leaving Inter on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.

Naturally, Inter would have no intention of seeing this happen.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri’s stance is clear. They want to either extend Dumfries’s contract, or else sell him this summer in order to cash in while they have the chance.

Inter To Go After Michael Kayode If Denzel Dumfries Leaves

Dumfries would likely attract interest if he doesn’t sign a new deal and is therefore on the market.

Manchester United are long-time admirers of the former PSV wingback.

And should Inter sell Dumfries, then they would have a clear like-for-like replacement in mind.

Kayode has been one of the breakout talents in Serie A over the course of the season so far.

The teenage right-back had not made an appearance in the Italian top flight part of this season.

However, Kayode has made nineteen appearances in the league for La Viola. He has arguably become the first-choice starter on the right for the Tuscans.

And Kayode’s performances have belied the player’s age and lack of experience.

The 19-year-old has looked assured defensively, and also made an impact going forward.

Given his similar position and playing style to that of Dumfries, Inter see Kayode as an ideal replacement for the Dutch international.
