Inter Milan are set to miss out on the signing of Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso, who is close to agreeing a move to Aston Villa.

FCInterNews report that both UK and Spanish media are widely reporting that the 28-year-old will sign for the Birmingham-based club.

Hermoso has looked to be one of the outstanding free transfer opportunities for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The former Espanyol defender’s contract with Atletico runs out at the end of June. And he will not be signing a new deal with the Colchoneros.

Therefore, Hermoso will be available on a free transfer in just a few weeks when his contract expires.

And given the Spanish international’s quality and experience at a high level, there has been no lack of suitors.

Inter Miss Out – Mario Hermoso To Sign For Aston Villa

Inter have reportedly been one of the teams keen on Hermoso.

That is not much of a surprise. The Nerazzurri have taken advantage of free transfer opportunities extensively over the past few years.

That is the route via which Hakan Calhanoglu, Andre Onana, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Marcus Thuram all came to Inter – just to name a few.

Inter will also be signing Mehdi Taremi from Porto and Piotr Zielinski from Napoli, both on free transfers this summer.

Furthermore, Hermoso would be a fairly natural fit at Inter in terms of Porto.

The versatile defender has largely played on the left of a back three over the last few seasons at Atletico. Therefore, Inter’s style of play wouldn’t be too much of an adjustment.

However, despite this it is clear that Hermoso won’t join Inter.

That is because Aston Villa are closing in on the Spaniard’s signature.

UK and Spanish media are reporting that there is now an agreement in place between the Villans and Hermoso.
