Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is “Still hungry to win more trophies” after this season’s Serie A title triumph.

Speaking to Armenian outlet ArmSport, via FCInterNews, the former Arsenal and Manchester United man also admitted that losing to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League was Inter’s “own fault.”

This season has certainly been one of the high points in Mkhitaryan’s long career.

The Armenian has been a key starter for Inter, even at the age of 35. He has found some of his very best form.

And Mkhitaryan has helped the Nerazzurri to the Serie A title.

That is the first league title that the veteran midfielder has won in a top five European league, having previously played for the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, United, and Roma.

This is a crowning moment for Mkhitaryan, But even in his mid-thirties, the Inter midfielder is not finished.

Inter Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan “Still Hungry To Win Trophies”

Of working with coach Simone Inzaghi, Mkhitaryan said that “It’s true I’ve worked with a lot of coaches.”

“Each of them has had their own philosophy, a unique approach to working with players.”

“It’s true that this is the first Scudetto for both me and Simone Inzaghi,” the Armenian continued.

“That’s a positive thing, because we’d already won the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia. But a league title means something different – especially when it’s the first.”

“When the team wins, it means that everyone has done a good job,” Mkhitaryan continued.

“But after a loss, everyone blames the coach.”

“Despite the fact that Inzaghi had been very close to winning the Scudetto in his first season here,” Mkhitaryan noted. “But everyone remembers how Inter lost it that season.”

“But in spite of that, we managed to become champions under his leadership.”

“I hope this is out first title together,” Mkhitaryan said. “But not the last.”

“Because I still have a hunger for more trophies. My desire to win trophies with this club is inexhaustible.”

Champions League Elimination “Our Own Fault”

Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan also opened up about the experience of being eliminated from the Champions League by Atletico Madrid in March.

“Of course, that loss was all our own fault as players,” the 35-year-old said.

“Each of us is responsible for it.”

“I think that when we took the lead in Madrid, we got a bit too casual,” Mkhitaryan reflected.

“We lost our focus, because we’d already won 1-0 at home.”

“At a certain point, it seemed as though the problems were solved. But we couldn’t have been more wrong.”

“Maybe we underestimated our opponent,” Mkhitaryan admitted. “And then when Atletico equalized, we were already exhausted.”

“We didn’t understand what was happening on the pitch for the last 10-15 minutes,” the Inter midfielder recalled.

“Atletico were just creating one dangerous situation after another in front of our goal.”

“I can say with certainty that it all happened because of tiredness,” Mkhitaryan said. “But that’s football. And we learn from mistakes and move on.”

“Knowing that we still had a lot of work to do in the league, we tried to forget about that match as soon as possible. Focus on the domestic league.”

“So that we could finish the job and become champions of Italy,” added the Armenian.
