Argentine giants River Plate have inquired about the possibility of signing our-of-favour Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa this summer.

This according to Argentine journalist German Balcarce, who is close to River. Balcarce reported in a tweet that the Argentine club have made the initial contacts with Inter.

Correa’s loan spell with Ligue 1 side Marseille is now coming to an end.

The Argentine made the move to the south of France last summer. He did so on a one-season loan deal.

That loan deal contained a purchase option worth 10 million.

And had Marseille qualified for next season’s Champions League, then the purchase option would have become a mandatory obligation.

However, the French club have failed to do so. They finished outside the Champions League places in an erratic league campaign, and only made it as far as the semifinals of the Europa League.

And there is certainly nothing about Correa’s form that would convince Marseille to sign him permanently.

This season, Correa has made nineteen appearances for Marseille. He has neither scored nor assisted a goal.

The vast majority of Correa’s appearances for Marseille have come off the bench.

Whilst Correa had not shown his best form for Inter, his experience in Ligue 1 has been even more of a flop.

River Plate Inquire About Joaquin Correa

So the question is, what comes next for Correa?

The Argentine will once again be an Inter player as his loan deal with Marseille expires.

The Nerazzurri will therefore have to sort out Correa’s future.

The former Lazio, Sevilla, and Sampdoria is out of contract with the Nerazzurri at the end of next June. Therefore, he could theoretically be reintegrated into the first team squad for one more season.

But Inter will certainly want to sell Correa instead.

And according to Argentine journalist Balcarce, River have emerged as suitors for the Argentine.

A return to South America and Argentina could be an alternative exit route for Correa, rather than a move to a new European club or to the Saudi Pro League.
