Italy coach Luciano Spalletti provides the latest updates on the conditions of Inter Milan duo Federico Dimarco and Alessandro Bastoni.

The Nerazzurri duo have been omnipresent in the Azzurri’s starting lineup since the start of Euro 2024, taking part in all three group-stage fixtures.

This includes the most recent clash against Croatia, when Spalletti opted to play Dimarco despite carrying a knock.

The 26-year-old gritted his teeth to make himself available for the clash, but he’s still dealing with a physical problem.

As reported earlier today, the left-back trained separately on Friday.

Sadly for Italy, the Inter stalwart won’t be able to recover in time for the Round of 16 showdown against Switzerland.

“Dimarco is out against Switzerland,” confirmed Spalletti in his interview with Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews.

“Tomorrow we will be able to play with something resembling a four-man defense because we have to be more offensive.”

On the other hand, the 65-year-old had more positive updates regarding Bastoni’s condition.

The Nerazzurri defender had a fever in the past few days. However, he managed to resume training along with the group on Friday.

Therefore, Spalletti and his staff will be monitoring his condition before making a decision over availability ahead of the match.

“Bastoni must be carefully assessed. He did some light work in training today and this gave us breathe a sigh of relief.”

This would be a timely return for the Azzurri who will be missing the services of Riccardo Calafiori at the back. The Bologna defender will be serving a one-match ban against the Swiss.
