Wingback Denzel Dumfries wants to extend his contract with Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the talks are ongoing on the financial details in a new deal after a recent meeting.

One of the big priorities for Inter during the summer transfer window has been to agree a new contract with Dumfries.

As of now, the 28-year-old is on the same deal that he signed when he joined from PSV in the summer of 2021.

That was a four-year contract, meaning that Dumfries’s deal expires at the end of next June.

Inter are happy with Dumfries’s performance. By all accounts Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi wants to keep the Dutchman in the squad next season.

But obviously, the contract situation would pose a problem in that respect.

Reports have indicated that Inter would look to sell Dumfries this summer if he did not sign a new deal. They would rather cash in now than risk losing him on a free transfer as they did Milan Skriniar.

Denzel Dumfries Wants To Sign New Inter Milan Contract

The key factor in regards to Dumfries’s future appears to be the fact that the player wants to stay.

That has been what Dumfries has said in public comments this summer.

And according to Tuttosport, that was also the sense in a recent meeting between Inter Sporting Director Piero Ausilio and representatives of the Dutchman’s agency the Wassermann Group.

According to the newspaper, the talks went positively.

There is brought agreement on a new deal until the end of June 2028 for Dumfries. This would bump his wages up to 4 million net per season plus add-ons.

The question now is simply how the add-ons will be structured.

Inter are still negotiating the final details of Dumfries’s new deal with the 28-year-old’s representatives.

But the sense is that it is really only a matter of time before Dumfries puts pen to paper on a new deal.
