Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi could end up testing his newest signing Tomas Palacios in a slightly different role.
The Nerazzurri resorted to the market following Tajon Buchanan’s injury which sparked some tweaks.
With the Canadian out of action, Inzaghi opted to switch Carlos Augusto back to his original role as an understudy for Federico Dimarco on the left wing.
However, this left Alessandro Bastoni without a clear backup for the left cente-back position.
Hence, Inter resorted to the market and brought in the left-footed Palacios.
But according to Il Corriere dello Sport via FcInterNews, there could be some changes to the original plan.
This is mainly due to Buchanan’s swift recovery. The Canadian has been making great strides and has already returned to training on the pitch.
The 25-year-old could be available for selection by mid-October, giving Inzaghi a significant boost.
Once Buchanan returns, the coach could once again deploy Augusto as a left defender. The Brazilian has proved to be a capable option for this role.
In the meantime, the Nerazzurri will take their time with Palacios, allowing him to learn the ropes and gradually adjust to Italian football.
Moreover, Inzaghi could have a new playing position in mind for the young Argentine.
With Bastoni and Augusto covering the left centre-back role, the Piacenza native could test Palacios as a central defender.

As the Roman newspaper explains, Inzaghi has two aging options for this position in Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.
Moreover, both veterans are running on expiring contract, leaving their futures at the club in doubt.
The source notes that the Italian champions are considering a move for Udinese’s Jaka Bijol.
Nevertheless, Palacios could prove to be an internal solution for the central role, mainly thanks to his imposing stature and impressive skills on the ball.
