Carlos Augusto will start for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A match away to his former team Monza.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews. They report that the Brazilian will play in the back three alongside Stefan de Vrij and Benjamin Pavard.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will have a bit of a balancing act in terms of naming his starting eleven this evening.
Of course, the priority is to take three points.
Inzaghi will know as well as anyone that he cannot underestimate Monza.
The Brianzoli got both a draw and a win against Inter two seasons ago. And even last campaign, the matches between the Lombard teams were harder than the scorelines may have suggested.
But Inzaghi also knows full well what’s on the horizon for Inter.
In just three days’ time, the Nerazzurri take on Manchester City in their Champions League group stage opener.
And then one week from today Inter face off with city rivals AC Milan in the first derby of the campaign.
Inzaghi is therefore ready to dip into his squad this evening.
The Inter coach has been given a deep squad in all areas of the pitch. And he is not going to overuse key players week in, week out.
Carlos Augusto To Start For Inter In Serie A Clash Vs Monza
Some of the most eye-catching rotation to Inter’s starting eleven will come in defense, reports the Corriere della Sera.
In the centre of the back three, Inzaghi is ready to give Francesco Acerbi a rest.
That means that Stefan de Vrij will get his first start of the season.
And on the left of the back three, Alessandro Bastoni will also get a rest after having started twice for Italy during the international break.
It will be Carlos Augusto who takes the place of Bastoni in the eleven.
Last season, the Brazilian regularly filled in for Bastoni on the left of the back three.
Inter signed Augusto from Monza as more of an attacking wingback. But, similarly to Matteo Darmian, Augusto showed his versatility to play in defense as well.
And today against his old team the Brianzoli, the 25-year-old will feature in that role.
