Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco will miss Wednesday’s match against Man City and is a doubt for the derby against AC Milan after suffering a thigh strain.
This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews.
Yesterday, Inter wingback Dimarco started in his team’s Serie A match away to Monza.
The 26-year-old in fact played the full ninety minutes of the match at the U-Power Arena.
This is relatively rare for Dimarco.
Typically, the Italian international is one of the players who Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi takes off as a substitute. The coach tends to change things up at wingback regularly.
However, Dimarco played from first to final whistle yesterday evening.
Meanwhile, Carlos Augusto started yesterday evening’s match on the left of the back three.
Dimarco Suffers Thigh Strain – Out For Man City, Doubt For AC Milan
In the closing stages of yesterday’s match, Dimarco showed evident signs of fatigue.
The 26-year-old was clearly not fully comfortable as he ran.
However, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi had already made all five substitutions by the time this occurred.
Therefore, the coach could not take Dimarco off for another player.
Instead, the Italian international switched to centre-back. He changed positions with Carlos Augusto.
The fact that both Dimarco and Augusto have the versatility to play at either centre-back or wingback allowed for this solution.
Dimarco was able to see out yesterday’s match.
And then after the match, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi claimed that the wingback had only suffered from “cramp.”
However, FCIN reports, Dimarco has in fact suffered a strain to the flexor muscles of his right thigh.
This injury will certainly keep the 26-year-old out for Wednesday’s Champions League match away to Manchester City.
Therefore, either Augusto or Matteo Darmian will start that match on the left flank.
Meanwhile, FCIN report, Dimarco will undergo further medical evaluations tomorrow.
The outlet report that it is currently up in the air whether or not the 26-year-old will be available for next Sunday’s Serie A derby clash with city rivals AC Milan.
