AC Milan captain Davide Calabria will miss the derby against Inter Milan due to injury.
This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. They report that Emerson Royal will start in place of the 27-year-old, who will be on the sidelines due to some adductor fatigue.
Inter and Milan face off in the first of two Serie A derby matches for the season tomorrow.
The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri go into tomorrow’s match off the back of very different European results.
Inter secured a draw away to Premier League juggernauts Manchester City on Wednesday to begin their Champions League campaign.
Milan, on the other hand, suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of English opposition. They were beaten 1-3 by Liverpool despite scoring an early goal.
On the other hand, in Serie A Inter had to settle for a point in their last time out. They drew 1-1 away to Monza.
Milan, by contrast, brushed aside Venezia 4-0 in the league last weekend.
AC Milan Captain Davide Calabria Out For Derby Clash Vs Inter – Emerson Royal To Start
And Milan coach Paulo Fonseca will have to do without a key player in tomorrow’s match.
Rossoneri captain Davide Calabria was in the starting eleven for Tuesday’s clash with Liverpool.
Calabria looked to be struggling in that match, however. The pace of Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo made it very difficult for the Italian international to cope.
And eventually, Calabria had to come off with an injury.
In the days following that match, Calabria has been assessed by Milan’s medical staff to determine whether or not he would be ready to play tomorrow.
But according to Mediaset, it has become apparent that the 27-year-old will not recover in time.
The broadcaster report that Calabria will not even be part of the Rossoneri’s squad for the derby.
Instead, a summer signing will start.
Mediaset report that former Barcelona and Real Betis wingback Emerson Royal will start in Calabria’s place.
Royal joined Milan from Tottenham Hotspur over the summer.
