Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez feels that the important thing is to put his “head down and keep working” after yesterday’s loss to AC Milan.
The Nerazzurri captain gave his reaction to the 2-1 derby defeat to Radio Serie A, via FCInterNews.
Inter’s sequence of six wins in the derby came to a screeching halt yesterday.
The Nerazzurri lost 2-1 to city rivals AC Milan in this evening’s derby. That was the first time since September of 2022 that the Rossoneri have won in the fixture.
And in truth, Inter were second best to their city rivals for much of the match.
Milan looked the side with more energy and coordination, creating a number of dangerous chances between Christian Pulisic’s early opener and Matteo Gabbia’s late winning goal.
Inter found the back through Federico Dimarco off the back of a well-worked team goal.
But far too often the Nerazzurri allowed Milan to dictate the pace of proceedings.
Inter captain Martinez started yesterday evening’s match.
And it was yet another match without a goal for the Argentine, who has yet to find the back of the net this season.
Martinez did provide the assist for Federico Dimarco’s goal in the first half.
But beyond goals and assists, it was not the most emphatic of performances from the Argentine.
Usually, Martinez is the player who sets the tone for Inter with his defensive workrate and linkup play.
But against Milan this evening, the entire team looked flat.

Particularly in a match as important as the derby.

“But now I have to work.”

“As I’ve always done throughout my career.”
