Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei has opened up on his Inter Milan departure, making a shock admission on his favorite childhood club.

During an interview with Tuttosport, as reported by Calciomercato, the 21-year-old admitted he supported Inter’s fiercest rivals, AC Milan, during his stint at Giuseppe Meazza.

Inter sold the prodigious Italian youngster to Chelsea in the summer of 2022.

And they made a decent profit. The Blues poured around €15 million, plus €5 million in add-ons, into the club’s bank accounts.

It was a masterstroke from Beppe Marotta, considering he sold a raw talent who didn’t have a senior appearance for Inter.

Casadei’s career at Stamford Bridge has yet to take off.

Despite penning a long-term six-year contract, he has only made 11 outings in the Chelsea shirt.

He spent last season on loan at Leicester City, helping the Foxes earn a swift Premier League promotion from the Championship.

After that, Cesare Casadei returned to base, yet he’s still waiting for his first top-flight appearance this term.

Enzo Maresca trusted the former Inter academy graduate during their time at the King Power Stadium.

However, the Italian boss has only used him twice in 2024/25. Those appearances came in the EFL Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League.

“As a child, I had Kaká as my idol and I sided with Milan” Casadei admitted.

“However, I became a professional and my first team in Serie A was Inter, with whom I have no grudge for the sale,” he continued.

Casadei drew inquiries from Serie A during the summer.

But after talking to Maresca, he turned down approaches from Italy to pledge his allegiance to Chelsea.

“The market rumors about Napoli, Milan, and also Juve? After talking to the coach, I was 100% sure that the decision to stay would be the best one,” he said.

“Maresca told me what he thinks, I had no doubts.

“I stayed here without evaluating possible loans. Nor do I think so for the next winter market at the moment.”
