Inter return to Serie A action from the international break this evening.
The Nerazzurri take on Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marcantoinio Bentegodi.
But there will be a couple of big names absent from the Nerazzurri squad for this afternoon’s match.
First of all, midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has not been called up for the match. The Turkish international has stayed behind to train and work on his fitness after an injury scare during the break,
However, another big name has joined Calhanoglu on the casualty list for Inter.
Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez will also not be part of the squad for this evening’s match.
Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez Misses Hellas Verona Clash With Flu-Like Symptons
Inter captain Martinez was with the Argentina national team during the break.
It was a memorable international break for Martinez. He scored the winner for the Albiceleste in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Peru.
That came via an acrobatic overhead kick. And it was Martinez’s 32nd for Argentina – taking him level with the legendary Diego Armando Maradona in the national team’s scoring charts.
However, Martinez returned to Inter training late because of the travel time from South America.
Therefore, the Inter captain was already a doubt to start this evening’s match against Verona. Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be thinking about squad rotation and preserving key players’ fitness.
But in fact, Sky reports, Martinez will not be in the Inter squad at all.
The broadcaster reports that the Inter captain has returned to Milan from Verona.
The reason for this is that Martinez is suffering from a fever and some flu-like symptoms.
With cold and flu season now in full swing, the Inter captain has picked up a bug and is in no condition to participate in this evening’s match.
Therefore, the aim will be to have Martinez recover for next Tuesday’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.
