Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu admits that having two injuries in a row was “tough” after making his return against RB Leipzig.

The Turkish international spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after this evening’s 1-0 Champions League victory.

Inter midfielder Calhanoglu came back from a thigh problem this evening.

The 30-year-old had not featured in Inter’s Serie A win over Hellas Verona over the weekend. This was because he was left out of the Nerazzurri’s squad for that match as a precaution.

Calhanoglu had an injury scare during the international break. The problem was some discomfort in his thigh.

It was the same thigh that had caused Calhanoglu some problems before the international break as well.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder had missed four matches with a thigh strain. Then he came back in matches against the likes of Arsenal and Napoli.

After this evening’s match, Calhanoglu commented that “I was out for a bit.”

“But I’m happy to be back.”

The Inter and Turkey midfielder admitted that “Having two injuries in a row in the same leg hurt.”

“But I’m happy to be back, and I hope to keep going like this without pain.”

“We always have to be ready and keep going,” Calhanoglu said after Inter went top of the Champions League table with three points against Leipzig.

“We’re happy. It’s a great result that keeps us up at the top.”

“Maybe we should’ve scored more goals based on what we created,” Calhanoglu admitted.

“But in the end, as with against Arsenal, we held onto the result and showed that we’re also good defensively.”

Calhanoglu noted that “We created a lot of chances in the first half.”

He added that “Leipzig are a strong team and they like to press high.”

“In the second half they improved and they caused some problems for us. But what mattered was the result.”
