Italian journalist Paolo Condo feels that Atalanta are contenders to win the Serie A title, while Inter Milan were “brilliant” against Parma.
Condo gave his thoughts on yesterday’s Serie A action in his column for La Repubblica, via FCInterNews.
Yesterday, two of the main teams in the Serie A title race were in action.
Reigning Italian champions Italy cruised to a 3-1 win over Parma. They showed not just their quality but also their tactical maturity and control to take three points at home.
Then, Atalanta responded with a home win of their own. Gian Gasperini’s men beat Inter’s city rivals AC Milan in front of their fans, with Ademola Lookman scoring a late winner.
This means that Atalanta are still three points ahead of Inter in the table, albeit with the Nerazzurri having a game in hand.
Meanwhile, Napoli will be feeling the pressure ahead of their Serie A clash with Lazio tomorrow.
Condo: “Atalanta Good Enough To Win Serie A, Inter Brilliant Vs Parma”
Italian journalist Condo writes that “It’s been obvious for some time that it’s pointless to put Atalanta’s place in the Scudetto race up for debate.”
“Clearly they’re in the mix. Along with Napoli and Inter, certainly, and maybe others – but certainly not Milan.”
“In the meantime,” Condo continues, “Inter were brilliant in beating Parma.”
“They overwhelmed Parma with a style of play, which also had the decisive finishes at the end of it.”
“Look at DImarco’s heel control for the opening goal,” Condo writes.
“These kinds of matches explain why Inzaghi, despite the quality of Frattesi and now Zielinski as well, continues to go with the midfield that he’s used for the last three years.”
“The idea came from dropping Calhanoglu deeper on the pitch,” Condo notes. “Then Barella’s intensity, the quality Mkhitaryan brings to every area of the pitch.”
Of Mkhitaryan’s performance yesterday, Condo writes that “Both the assist for Dimarco and a couple of defensive cover runs were worth noting.”
