Francesco Acerbi could be back in Inter Milan’s starting eleven for next weekend’s Serie A match against Lazio.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the 36-year-old will already get a call-up against Bayer Leverkusen but start on the bench.

Acerbi has been recovering from a thigh strain the past couple weeks.

The veteran former Lazio and Sassuolo defender picked up the injury during a Serie A match against Hellas Verona last month.

Acerbi’s injury has seen him miss matches against RB Leipzig, Fiorentina, and Parma.

This is the second time since mid-October that Acerbi has been out with a thigh problem.

A return is just around the corner for Acerbi, however.

The Corriere confirm that the 36-year-old is just about ready to return to full training.

The aim will be to have Acerbi available for selection in Inter’s next match. On Tuesday, they face Bayer Leverkusen away in the Champions League.

However, Acerbi will not be ready to go straight back into the starting lineup for that match.

Therefore, the Italian international will start on the bench.

However, Acerbi will likely be ready to start Inter’s next match. That comes away to his former team Lazio on Monday, December 16th.
