Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi is still a fitness doubt for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. They report that the 36-year-old is partially back in training today, but there will be maximum caution with his fitness.
Acerbi has been recovering from a thigh strain the past couple weeks.
The veteran former Lazio and Sassuolo defender picked up the injury during a Serie A match against Hellas Verona last month.
Acerbi’s injury has seen him miss matches against RB Leipzig, Fiorentina, and Parma.
This is the second time since mid-October that Acerbi has been out with a thigh problem.
Francesco Acerbi Still A Doubt For Bayer Leverkusen Vs Inter UCL Clash
According to Sky, Acerbi has made his return to training with the squad on a partial basis today as anticipated.
The Italian international managed to complete part of the session without problems.
Therefore, there is no doubt that a return to the pitch is now close for Acerbi.
However, Inter’s next match is in just two days. They travel to Germany to take on Bayer Leverkusen.
And Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi isn’t going to take any risks with Acerbi’s fitness.
If the 36-year-old is not 100%, he will not be in the squad for Tuesday’s Champions League match.
Tomorrow’s training session will be decisive.
And if Acerbi is not in the squad against Leverkusen this week, he will certainly be back for Inter’s Serie A match against Fiorentina.
