Inter Milan’s season has now come to an end. They lost 0-2 against Brazilian side Fluminense in the round of sixteen of the Club World Cup.
This means that the Nerazzurri will not end the campaign with any silverware.
Inter Milan had their ups and downs in the group stage of the Club World Cup.
However, the knockouts simply proved to be a bridge too far for Cristian Chivu’s team.
Fluminense went ahead within a couple minutes. Inter looked shellshocked, whether it was the result of the long season, the heat, or simply being overrun by an organized and determined Fluminense team.
Inter huffed and puffed for the rest of the ninety minutes. They did carve out some good chances, even hitting the post twice.
But in the end the second goal of the match came from the Brazilian team, in stoppage time to seal the upset victory.
Matteo Darmian Admits “There’s Regret” As Inter Bomb Out Of Club World Cup

After the match, Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian admitted that “we’re certainly disappointed.”
“We wanted to go on to the next round,” the Italian international continued.
“There’s some regret. Because it was within our reach. But now the only thing we can do is look forward, and take a break for a moment.”
“And be ready for the new season when the time comes,” Darmian added.
Meanwhile, Darmian gave his thoughts on the angry words from Inter captain Lautaro Martinez after the match. “After a loss it’s hard to even talk,” he said.
“There was a feeling of some bitterness over the loss, maybe.”
“We all have to take our responsibilities. Now, we have to put this season behind us.”
“We didn’t do as well as we could’ve,” Darmian said of the campaign. “When you play for Inter, you always have to fight to win.”
“Unfortunately we didn’t succeed. And losses like this always hurt.”
