Inter Milan still consider Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini to be a dream signing.

This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They note, however, that the price tag for the 21-year-old would be a major obstacle to a deal.

Inter have been tracking Scalvini for a couple of years now.

The Italian international is one of the Nerazzurri’s major targets in defense.

Scalvini is familiar with and proven in not just Serie A, but also a back three defensive system. That would make him an ideal player for Inter to rejuvenate their backline.

Scalvini was out for a number of months recovering from a knee injury that he sustained at the end of last season.

However, the 21-year-old returned a few weeks ago, making some cameo appearances.

And then, Scalvini started in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal against Inter. Somewhat surprisingly, he started in midfield.

Inter Still Consider Atalanta Defender Giorgio Scalvini A Dream Signing

According to FCIN, with Scalvini back and fully fit, Inter are once again monitoring him as a possible signing in defense.

However, the problem is the same as ever: the asking price.

Before Scalvini’s knee injury, Atalanta were reportedly valuing the 21-year-old at around €60 million.

Now, the caveat of the injury means that La Dea would probably accept a bid of around €50 million.

But even so, that would still be very high for Inter. Even with owners Oaktree Capital showing a willingness to invest in deals for younger players.

Moreover, FCIN note, Atalanta are likely to try and sell players like Ademola Lookman or Ederson in the next season or two.

Those are the players with the most interest from the Premier League and other big clubs abroad, and therefore those likeliest to fetch the highest transfer fees.

Nevetheless, FCIN report, Inter’s interest in Scalvini remains very much alive.
