Henrikh Mkhitaryan has won praise for his “suffocating” presence in midfield for Inter Milan against Monaco yesterday.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, hailed the Armenian’s efficient and high-intensity display in the centre of the pitch.

Mkhitaryan started for Inter yesterday. He lined up on the left of the midfield trio, as Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi went with more or less the strongest available lineup.

And Mkhitaryan showed exactly why he has the full trust of his coach.

And the former Arsenal and Roma midfielder really took the match to the Monaco midfield.

The Nerazzurri were looking to press high and force errors out of the Ligue 1 team. And perhaps no player exemplified that more than Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Meanwhile, the Corriere also praise the likes of Nicolo Barella and Kristjan Asllani for their displays.

Therefore, the Inter midfield looked coherent and polished even without the usual holding midfielder in the form of Hakan Calhanoglu.
