Francesco Acerbi will leave Inter Milan this summer if the Nerazzurri sign a replacement.

This according to today’s print edition of Italian newspaper Quotidiano Sportivo, via FCInter1908. They report that the arrival of a younger defender would definitely trigger an Acerbi exit.

Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi is now in his third season as a Nerazzurri player.

The Italian international arrived from Lazio on deadline day in the summer of 2022, to little fanfare.

However, despite that contentious arrival, Acerbi has proven to be a linchpin of Inter’s defense.

The 37-year-old remains a key player in the Nerazzurri’s first-choice starting eleven. He has starting in a Champions League final, and he was an important player in last season’s Serie A title win.

Francesco Acerbi Will Leave Inter Milan If A Younger Defender Signs

There is no getting around the fact that Acerbi is very much getting older, however.

Therefore, Quotidiano Sportivo report, Inter will likely offload the former Lazio and Sassuolo defender at the end of this season.

The arrival of a younger player with a similar profile to replace Acerbi would certainly open the door for a departure.

And Inter have been linked with quite a few younger defenders from within Serie A.

Among these have been Bologna’s Sam Beukema, Atalanta’s Isak Hien, Udinese’s Jaka Bijol, and Genoa’s Koni De Winter.
