Antonio Cassano feels that Inter Milan were “steamrolled” by Barcelona, and that they “could have conceded five goals.”
Cassano was not impressed by the Nerazzurri’s performance in the 3-3 Champions League semifinal first leg. He gave a scathing assessment on the Viva el Futbol podcast, via FCInterNews.
Former striker Antonio Cassano has been unsparing in his views on his old team Inter.
The ex-Italian international has always been outspoken. And he has attacked the Nerazzurri with particular vehemence in recent weeks.
Cassano claimed that Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni receive “favouritism” in the media.
The former striker also argued that the Nerazzurri have had a “sh*t season” and that this is the case even if they end up winning the Champions League.
Cassano: Inter “Steamrolled” By Barcelona – “Could Have Conceded Five Goals”

Former striker Cassano argued that “I’ve seen wonderful football from Inter in Italy.”
“But in Europe, almost never.”
“That has to be said clearly. We’ve seen the difference in philosophy, quality, and ideas.”
“And if I continue to say that Inzaghi doesn’t convince me, it’s because in Europe he plays like this,” Cassano then argued of Inter’s coach. “Cautious, defeatist.”
“In Italy, maybe they can score three goals against Empoli or Verona,” he continued, furthermore.
“But Inter were under pressure for the whole match.”
Moreover, Cassano argued that “the 3-3 scoreline doesn’t interest me.”
“The real fact is that they conceded twenty shots. And they did poorly defensively.”
“Maybe they’ll reach the final, and I’ll be happy for Italian football,” Cassano said furthermore. “But today’s analysis is different.”
“People talk a lot about Inzaghi as a genius. But tonight they were just kicking the ball long.”
“Against Bayern Munich, it was the same story. In 180 minutes, Inter created very little. That’s an objective fact.”
Inter “Too Defensive” – Barella & Bastoni’s “Limits Exposed By Barcelona”
After yesterday’s 3-3 draw against Barcelona, former striker Cassano declared “what a match.”
He called the semifinal first leg “magnificent” and “wonderful.”
“Considering the weight of the match, it was the best match of the entire Champions League season.”
“It was a real, intense, and top-level match.”
Then, Cassano argued that “when I saw that Barca are unique, it’s because, despite not having absolute phenomena player, they never let you get a whiff of the ball.”
“They’re extraordinary in possession,” he continued. “In controlling the game.”
“Inter counterattacked three times in the entire match.”
And of Inter’s corner kicks, Cassano said “forget about them – we knew they’re one of the weapons that would favour the Nerazzurri.”
He argued that “a strong team like Inter can’t afford to play a match like that.”
“They were steamrolled,” argued the former striker. “They could have conceded five goals.”
“It was a serious match, sure. But it was very, very defensive.”
Cassano that Inter are “the strongest team in Italy.”
“But they can’t be at that level in Europe playing that way. In terms of their quality, they’ve disappointed me.”
“Inter have a strong midfield, but they were outpaced by Barcelona in terms of ideas, quality, pace,” Cassano argued.
“Some of the praise for them needs to be tempered. Bastoni and Barella are great players, but yesterday we saw their limits. Barcelona exposed them.”
You have such a loser mentality. I am certain you see the glass as half full when you don’t hit your goals 100%. Inter was abysmal in this first leg and we didn’t deserve anything from this game apart from Thuram’s goal. To say ball possession is useless shows a lack of ambition some of us Inter fans have. No top team should allow any team to just have their with them. We are Inter and not some mid table premier league team. Again you have a LOSER mentality. Get rid of such thinking and then you’ll see that this team seriously underperforms and isn’t at the level they should be.
This comment is for Bruno but somehow got posted as a lone comment lol. Comment section on this site is buns and I can’t even delete nor edit it. Guys please fix this crap of a comment section
Why is Cassano attack on Inter deserve a post. The guy is obviously delusional and was and will always be remembered in history as a washed up player so why keep posting his nonsense comments over and over. Again WHY ????
cassano (deliberately lowercase) is such a loser—typical romanisti and zingaro—and should never be taken seriously as a football expert. He was a mental failure his entire career, and we can all see that clearly now. Someone get him his pills please
This moron sounds like a lot of the Inter “fans” on this site. “They could’ve conceded five”… Guess what? We didn’t and we scored three on them at their home, and we had chances to score at least one more. Do people understand that dominating through ball possession is not the only way to play football? Do they understand that if we face a team that dominates ball possession, we’re not going to go toe to toe against them? We will sit back and counter when we can. It has worked this CL campaign against Bayern and the first leg against Barca. It worked in 2010 under Mourinho who’s team is arguably better than Inzaghi’s in every position. It’s amazing seeing fans glazing the opposing side instead of supporting Inter in a CL semi-final away from home. If we would’ve tied at home against Barca, you all would be saying that the tie is over and that Barcelona will demolish us in their home. We pulled an amazing feat yesterday and I still see fans complaining about tactics and the team’s age. The fact that we made it this far with an old team and “no tactics” makes it even more impressive if you ask me. By the way, the old players are capable of running for 90 minutes (Mhkitaryan, Sommer & Acerbi). Dimarco, on the other hand, hasn’t been able to play over 70 minutes in years. Not only was Bastoni getting owned by Yamal, but he was making stupid passes and gifting chances in the first half. What I’m trying to say is that age doesn’t matter as much as most people think. A young talented Barcelona team, who a lot of people say is the best team currently, couldn’t beat an old team without “tactics” at their home. Let that sink in.
lmaoooo spot on
well I am amazed listenting to this guy cassano but is he for real one minutes he say one thing abd the next he say the opposite for instance he said what a game this must be the.best game on the champions league and then he said inter were steamroller. in my opinion if and only if inter were steamroller then it means it was one sided game there it will not be tge best game in the champions league . well now I am worried is this guy on medication on he is smoking some very high substance. .Cassino please stop makking a fool of yourself we all know about you when u were playing .
