A tiebreaker to decide who would take the title saw Inter win 10–3 on aggregate. This title win was very important for Inter’s evolution because it helped them become established as a respected name in Italian soccer.

1960’s La Grande Inter 

If the first title set Inter on the path to soccer greatness, the 1960s saw them evolve into a team that everyone knew.

The golden years in this decade were the 62/63, 64/65, and 65/66 campaigns. These were crucial to the development of the side as a top name in both Italian and world soccer.

This period saw the team take three Serie A crowns, two European cups, and two Intercontinental cups. Important players included Sandro Mazzola, Luis Suarez, Armando Picchi, Giacinto Facchetti, and Tarcisio Burgnich. 

Guided by iconic manager Helenio Herrera, Inter developed their signature ‘catenaccio’ style of play in the 1960s. This helped give the side a real identity among their peers and become known for having their own approach to the game. 

The 2000s Revival

After the heady heights of the 1960s, Inter enjoyed a quieter spell overall in the next few decades. This saw the side remain a respected force in the Italian game but struggle to take the next step forward.

UEFA Champions League Win in 2010

As much as the domestic success in the 2000s helped Inter once more evolve into a dominant force in Italian soccer, it was the historic UEFA Champions League victory in 2010 that put them back on the wider soccer map. 

Their 2–0 final win against Bayern Munich was inspired by Milito, but the whole team pulled out a top-class performance when it mattered.

This historic moment saw Inter climb back to giddy heights and reestablish itself as a powerhouse in European soccer. It also saw them claim the Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Champions League treble under Jose Mourinho. 

2020/21 Serie A Win

When it comes to landmark victories that have seen Inter evolve, the 20/21 Serie A win is key. This helped the side come to the table again in modern-day Italian soccer and pick up their first trophy in many years.

This title victory set the tone for the last few seasons and gave the club a platform to build their more recent successes on. 

The side was brilliant in this campaign and clinched the title after Atalanta’s draw with Sassuolo in May 2021. To make this victory even sweeter, they beat old rival AC Milan to the crown by a massive 12 points!
