Napoli do not want to bump the last Serie A matches forward ahead of Inter Milan’s Champions League final against PSG.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCinter1908.
Serie A has found itself in a bit of scheduling chaos as the season reaches its end.
At the heart of the matter is a prospective playoff for the title.
If Inter Milan and Napoli are to finish level on points at the top of the table, they would play a one-off match for the title.
The tricky aspect would be fitting this playoff in.
Inter will already be playing in the Champions League final at the end of the month. They face Paris Saint-Germain in Munich on the 31st.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri will hardly want the distraction of a playoff against Napoli just a few days before then.
Accordingly, the league are attempting to accommodate Inter by getting any prospective title playoff out of the way as soon as possible.
Napoli Don’t Want To Bump Last Serie A Matches Forward Ahead Of Inter UCL Final

At the same time, the Lega Serie A have made it so that Inter and Napoli will play their last two matches concurrently.
That way, neither team knows their rival’s result before they kick their match off.
That will be the case this weekend. Inter host Lazio, whilst Napoli play Parma away on Sunday.
Then, the Nerazzurri’s and Partenopei’s final matches of the campaign are against Como and Cagliari respectively.
One solution to make room for a playoff would be for the league to bump both those matches forward to Thursday. May 22nd.
That would mean that if a playoff is to be triggered by Inter and Napoli finishing level on points, the two teams could play it on Sunday, the 25th.
That would give Inter almost a full week to prepare for the Champions League final.
However, reports the Corriere, Napoli do not want this to happen. They want to play their final match of the season against Cagliari next weekend.
well, hopefully Napoli will pay for this.
Napoli should follow what the league decides not what suits them better. If they think they can avoid it they can just make sure they won their matches because it’s in the league best interest to make sure the CL is actually won by an Italian team so putting that team in a disadvantage because Napoli wants to rest more is just crazy
Of course Napoli will take an advantage from Inter situation, also they know that they dont have a squad depth to play 3 or 4 days in a row. But, this is up to FIGC. Inter is representing Serie A in UCL final. If Inter fails to win UCL due to schedule, then FIGC may be blamed.
