Simone Inzaghi has come in for criticism over the mentality failure by Inter Milan in yesterday’s Serie A draw with Lazio.
Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, criticize the Nerazzurri coach for how he set up his team.
It’s not hard to imagine what Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi will have told his team before yesterday’s match against Lazio.
Inter’s fate was not in their own hands. They knew that they needed Napoli to drop points.
But the Nerazzurri had to keep believing. If Parma were to do them a favour, they could go top of the table with just a single match to go.
Therefore, Inter needed to just go out and do everything for the win.
Even if Napoli had beaten Parma, the Nerazzurri could have no regrets or embarrassment if they took three points and kept the league leaders honest.
Inzaghi Under Fire For Mentality Failure In Inter Milan 2-2 Lazio Draw
Parma did their job. The Gialloblu held Napoli to a goalless draw in Emilia-Romagna.
However, Inter failed to capitalize on this golden opportunity.
In the first half, the Nerazzurri dominated possession as they pushed for the victory. However, they were lacking a bit of cutting edge, whilst they conceded a couple very dangerous counterattacks.
In spite of that complacent first half, Inter went in 1-0 up at halftime, courtesy of a Yann Bisseck goal from a corner in stoppage time.
But in the second half, Inter did not come out looking like a team ready to really press their advantage.
Instead, it was Lazio who looked to be the team much sharper.
That eventually led to a Biancocelesti equalizer.
Still, Inter fought back. They scored to go ahead yet again.
But then after that the Nerazzurri once again seemed to switch off, taking the result for granted.
In the view of the Corriere, all this was downstream from the coach.
I stick up for Inzaghi more than most, but yesterday was a failure of reading his squad! Our second string have played with hunger and desire recently, and as the first 11 quite clearly couldn’t give a shit about the Scudetto, they should have continued to rest for the Chapions league!! Could not believe that Zalewski didn’t keep his place after his performance, especially as an ex Romanista, coming up against Lazio?? DeVrij also, pretty much for the same reasons, as well as not really putting a foot wrong all season!! Sommer did nothing wrong, but I’d have probably continued with Martinez too….. The only thing he can’t do anything about is our back up strikers…. if you’re shit, you’re shit…..
