Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has won praise for a positive performance against Monterrey in the Club World Cup.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, name the Armenian as the Nerazzurri’s outstanding player in the 1-1 draw.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was in the starting eleven for Inter Milan in their Club World Cup group stage opener against Mexican club Monterrey.
That was hardly a surprise. The former Roma, Arsenal, and Manchester United midfielder was one of the players former Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi trusted most.
And Cristian Chivu has given an indication that he feels the same way. He started Mkhitaryan on the left of the midfield trio in his first ever Inter starting lineup.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan Praised For Performance In Monterrey 1-1 Inter

In the view of Tuttosport, Henrikh Mkhitaryan put in an excellent performance.
From the start, the 36-year-old was key to Inter’s game in possession. His technical ability in tight spaces and reading of the game were ideal.
Therefore, Mkhitaryan rarely gave the ball away. He was able to keep the pressure on Monterrey by evading pressure with some good turns and passes.
Then, in the second half, Mkhitaryan started to play higher up the pitch.
With a change in system, the Armenian played as more of an attacking midfielder in a 3-4-1-2 shape.
With inters u-23 team, mikhi will not have a place. Same with Acerbi.
LOL. Sure, buddy.
Our real issue in midfield is that Frattesi and Asllani play like mid-table players and are not reliable. Mikhi is supposed to come on when veteran experience is needed, not to start almost every game of the season.
Exactly. He plays because the alternatives aren’t any better, even if the alternatives are 10-15 years younger.
This is something that most people here don’t understand. Mkhitaryan still has class and is clearly a great footballer. Instead of focusing on his age, you should focus on how he plays and what he contributes. A lot of people complain about the squad age and how the team gets tired because of how old players are. If we look at the 10 outfield players, only Mkhitaryan and Acerbi are old. Everybody else is below 30 except for these two and Hakan who just turned 31 (can barely be considered old, unless we’re treating any player above 25 as a geriatric). And guess what, Mkhi and Acerbi were finishing all games, rarely coming out because they can still keep up. On the other hand, Dimarco and Bastoni who are almost 10 years younger couldn’t finish games due to exhaustion.
That said, I would like for younger players to have a pivotal role in the team, but these players need to show they have the quality to play for Inter and to replace Mkhi and Acerbi. Being young doesn’t automatically mean that you have more quality than veteran players, especially veteran players that can still help the team massively. That’s something that a lot of people here don’t seem to understand.
Glad to see Im not the only one that noticed Dimarco and Bastoni’s lack of stamina during the season.
Dimarco is a heavy smoker
playing as wingback in the inzaghi system is exhausting, if dimarco plays whole game, there is a big possibility that he can’t play 1 game every 2 or three games in a row.. Same with Bastoni and Pavard, they frequently do overlaps, especially Bastoni who has very good passing skill…
100% agreed, if you want to use younger layers, make sure they are quality.
36 and not slowing down this guy is a freak, but respectfully we really need to give game time to Frattesi, but he also needs to improve his passing because technically he’s nowhere near Mhkitaryan.
No, just let him go. If Inter needs to rely on a 36 year old, it just shows how lack of trust and talent the team has.
but we still need him lmao
