Inter Milan could reportedly terminate the contract of veteran defender Francesco Acerbi by paying out a clause in his deal.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Libero, via FCInter1908. They report that the Nerazzurri are considering paying the Italian international €500,000 to end his deal early.
Francesco Acerbi has been an Inter Milan player for the past three years. He joined from Lazio in the summer of 2022.
During that period, Acerbi has been a stalwart at the back for Inter.
However, there is no getting around the fact that Acerbi is now well into his thirties. He will turn 38 next season.

And according to Libero, Inter Milan are considering cutting Francesco Acerbi loose.
The Nerazzurri want to focus on the future and build their project around young players. Therefore, they are ready to try and sign teenage defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma.
As such, Inter may decide that there is no room for Acerbi.
The 37-year-old is under contract with Inter until the end of next June. However, Inter do have the option to terminate the veteran defender’s deal.
As Libero note, there is a clause in Acerbi’s contract. If Inter give the former Lazio and Sassuolo defender a €500,000 payout, then his contract will end.

Just let him stay to help new players integrate into the team. We need leaders to push the team when needed as sometimes the backline does show signs of fazing out mid game. I want younger players on the team of course but it’s hard to bring them in and seeing them succeed right away. Would also be a bit messed up after how crucial he’s been in seasons past. If anyone should go, let De Vrij and/or Darmian go. Sommer is 50/50 but still…
No he should go now he has paid his dues, and thanks to him, dont confuse us with unnecessary emotion. …pls.
we dont want to go trophyless again after having high hope of winning treble and ended up trophyless. we dont unnecessary and useless emotions.
Learn from PSG and Chelsea.
Ideally, for 6 centrebacks we would need 1 player of age 31+ to help younger players and to bring stability and experience when needed, 4 players between ages of 23-30 who are going to fight for starting trio and 1 high prospect between age 18-22. And we have 3 players with 33+ years, 0 high prospects in team
for me its complete madness terminating his contract, its as if he were to blame for all 5 goals happened in final. for me he deserves another year, even after his retirement he has to work for inter maybe as assistant coach for defensive aspect, he has been great defensive anchor and professional. just because he is old doesnt mean he cant be great.
Inter will keep him or De Vrij unless they sign at least 2 new defenders .
With a back three, we need to have at least 5 defenders. So far it seems Bastoni and Pavard are the only stable 2 and neither is a central CB in back three. Bisseck might be sold.
I wouldn’t mind having Acerbi for another year but we do not need to plan for long term with younger CBs
Inter is not a retirement home and you cannot invest emotions on players when you are trying to build a winning team for the future, you can’t eat your cake and have it. Either you want a younger and fresher inter or you want to go into next season watching the squad collapse again around March/April due to tired old legs. Emotions don’t play a part in soccer am sorry you have attached emotions to these players.
Legs were tired by March/April, as you mentioned, but Acerbi and Mkhitaryan were some of the few players that were able to run the full 90 minutes. The ones who were noticeably tired were Dimarco, Thuram, Calhanoglu, and Bastoni; all of them are under 30 except for Calhanoglu. Acerbi has been extremely helpful to Inter, and his contract runs out at the end of next season. You can revamp the squad and have some veterans still be part of it.
Remember we still have Stefan de vrij on our books ,Darmian is also there then acerbi and Sommer, that is a really very old back line bro and I hate for us to go through what we went through again last season, it’s time to revamp this team. Moratti once said the mistake he made after treble win in 2010 was to have kept faith with the aging players in the team instead of immediately rebuilding the team and see where that led us to 8yrs of banter era cause we failed to prepare for the future trying to honor the past heros…I totally understand your point but disagree respectfully. Thanks for your constructive response as I sometimes see on these pages several inter fans cursing out each other each time they disagree on something about the direction of the team.. we need more fans like u. Cheers
Yeah. Acerbi is an emotional leader. An on-field captain. He has a fighting spirit and understands situational football. All things that need to be in the team even if he doesn’t play every game.
How many time did acerbi featured for inter last season ? those of you that wants him to remain in the team. because I dont know why most of you are attaching unnecessary emotion to the situation on ground
Thank you my brother, those people that wants the likes of acerbi to remain are not learning form teams like PSG and Chelsea, who let go of their old legs and brought in young and energetic youth.
This guy have been through and through with us, terminating his contract like this is nothing but shame. I know sometimes he’s injury prone but it’s undeniable that he was world class since he joined Inter. Acerbi doesn’t deserve this type of threatment, negotiate him with Al-Hilal or even let him act like a mentor to the younger players. It can’t be like this, they can’t simply terminate his contract due his age!
well that would be ugly. some things you just dont do. he helped us a lot, would be nasty to throw him away like that..but i can expect anything from this inter.
