Francesco Pio Esposito was among the best on the field in last night’s pre-season friendly between Inter Milan and Monza.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Esposito has proven that he is not only one for the future, but also for the present.
Inter beat Monza on penalties after the game ended 2-2 in regulation, with the Nerazzurri conceding a last-gasp equalizer.
However, Cristian Chivu’s side had to come from behind after Patrick Ciurria put the Biancorossi in front.
Samuele Birindelli’s own goal and Esposito’s backheel turned the match on its head.
Yet, Paulo Azzi took the game to penalties with an 89th-minute goal.
Francesco Pio Esposito Impresses in Inter Milan Friendly Win vs Monza

Given a chance to start, Francesco Pio Esposito refused to squander the opportunity.
Indeed, he was superb in link-up play and also slotted home a sensational backheel flick to give Inter the lead.
Therefore, he earned plaudits for his performance.
On the contrary, Federico Dimarco failed to meet expectations and was among the weakest on the field.
Despite several quality crosses, he lost track of Ciurria, leading to Monza’s opening goal.
Should have bought Leoni. Liverpool nearly got him now with 35 million euro including bonuses. Lookman is nice but Inter have got too many forward.
We dont need another attacker. We have 4 in our backyard. What we need is defence!!! Atleast 2 new and youger ones, that have quality for Inter. It seems we are still trying to buy wrong player from Atlanta, Scavolini would be perfect for us.
inter need 5 striker. thuram is often get injured, i dont want to see lautaro paired with junior stricker when facing top club.
Augusto should be starting ahead of Dimarco. Just because I feel that Augusto is better on the ball which is the quality we need when doing buildup plays. When doing counter attacks, Dimarco puts in good early crosses but other than that he’s lacking quite a bit in terms of defense or dribbling.
Agree with your points most of the time, but not on this… Augusto is better defensively, buy that is it! DiMarco has far superior technique, passing and crossing ability, and scores and assists way more than Augusto! Maybe we should start Augusto when we’re away to top class opposition, and we’ll be on the backfoot more, bit DiMarco is responsible for about 30-40% of the creativity within the team! If he was dropped, we’d soon notice the difference….
Maybe you are right, but I do want to see Augusto play a bit more as I generally think he is better on the ball than Dimarco. Also Dimarco’s been disappointing for quite a while so it may be good to bring some competition between those two.
anyone noticed that many monza’s chances or crosses started from their left wing?
Yep…. but the current trend is to slate DiMarco whenever possible, because he had 2 really bad games last season… personally, I would counter that by saying that DiMarco is not the only player in the world to be skinned by Yamine Lamal (Augusto was far worse than Dimarco in the second leg, after DiMarco was taken off) and the whole team was shocking in the Championship league final- not just DiMarco! Even on the 2 goals he is blamed for, Acerbi came out for no reason on goal 1, and Barella gave up on a ball and was beaten to it for the second goal, but hey, let’s all make DiMarco public enemy number 1!!
I know that I’m probably DiMarcos biggest fan on here, but I feel this is a little harsh! DiMarco actually stuck with his man for the goal, but then Monza doubled up on him, and their right back came in on the blind side, and scored…. my question would be 1. Where was Miki?? 2. Where was the communication?? Just because a goal is scored from the right, doesn’t automatically mean its DiMarcos fault!!
And yes, he looked fit, and put in many dangerous crosses, one of which led to the goal!! Starting to think there’s a bit of an anti DiMarco agenda on here….
Miki and Asllani were by far and away the worst performers on the pitch last night!! End of!!
DImarco is actually decent and he’s a player that can impact the match when Inter tries to score. He’s not however the best when it comes to defending and that’s why he needs cover from midfield
Agree completely!! It’s similar to the Trent Alexander Arnold situation…. do you want to focus entirely on the fact that he’s not the greatest defender in the world, or do you want to look at the positives?
His technique is first class!! His passing and set piece delivery is first class!! His crossing is Worl Class!! And he is a born and bred Interisti!!
In his supposed nightmare season last year, he got 6 goals and 11 assists… try and find many more productive wing backs than that!!
“Despite several quality crosses, he lost track of Ciurria, leading to Monza’s opening goal”
Honestly is this a surprise to anyone??
Di Marco has always been sunday league level in defence – tight pressing, defensive spacing and man tracking.
He has shown no defensive improvement since his u19s days…I’d even go as far to say he is getting worse. Like fckn press your man dude and get physical in the contact instead of given your man 3 meters of space to do everything….
