Inter Milan-owned attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni is not in the Argentina squad for the Under-20 World Cup.

The Albiceleste have released their squad list for the tournament, with Carboni a notable absence. According to FCInterNews, Carboni’s current club Genoa have not released him.

Inter Milan attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni is currently on loan at Genoa.

The Argentine joined the Grifone on loan during the summer transfer window preceding this season.

Genoa have only signed Carboni on a dry loan. There is no purchase option in favour of the Ligurian club.

This is similar to the arrangement by which Monza signed Carboni on loan during the 2023-24 campaign.

Last season, Carboni was on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1. Furthermore, the French club also had a purchase option, reportedly set at over €40 million. Meanwhile, Inter had a buyback clause.

Carboni’s time at Marseille came to an abrupt end after the young midfielder suffered a serious knee injury last October.

However, Carboni recovered from that injury in time for the Club World Cup with Inter. He participated in that tournament, even scoring the winning goal in a group stage clash with Urawa Red Diamonds.

Meanwhile, Carboni has also worked his way into the Argentine national team setup.

The Inter attacking midfielder has starred for the Albiceleste at various youth team levels.

Then, last summer, Carboni received his first call-ups for the senior Argentina team.

Nevertheless, the Inter midfielder would still be eligible to play for the Albiceleste at Under-20 and Under-21 levels.

Therefore, Carboni was a candidate to play for Argentina at the upcoming Under-20 World Cup.

The FIFA tournament will take place between September 27th and October 20th. Argentina will face the likes of Cuba, Australia, and Italy in the group stage.

The tournament will provide an unpredictable spectacle featuring rising stars of the game. The level of unpredictability could rival even gambling sites not on gamstop.

However, Valentin Carboni’s current club Genoa have declined to release the 20-year-old for the tournament.

This mirrors the situation of other Argentine players in a similar age bracket. For example, Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen have not released Franco Mastantuono and Claudio Echeverri respectively for the tournament.

Therefore, Carboni will continue to play for Genoa in Serie A over the coming weeks rather than participating with his national team.

Inter Miami’s Mateo Silvetti has instead received a call-up for Argentina at the tournament.
