Cristian Chivu returned to the Stadio Olimpico as an opponent for the first time in his coaching career, and he left with three vital points and a strong message about mentality and sacrifice as Inter emerged 1-0 victors against Roma.

Speaking after the game, with quotes via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri coach highlighted both the tactical maturity of the first half and the collective suffering that sealed the result after the break.

Chivu admitted that this was the exact type of performance he had asked for.

“I wanted us to understand the moments,” he explained.

“We had a big first half, even if we could have been more concrete. Then we dropped physically in the second half, but we rolled up our sleeves and did everything to bring home the result.”

The Romanian also underlined the human side of his squad, praising their commitment through a demanding schedule.

“These players make sacrifices. They never see their families between national team duty and training camps.”

A key talking point was the young attacking duo behind Lautaro Martinez. Chivu defended his faith in them: “I always knew what they could give. Bonny scored, and Lautaro played through illness like a real captain.

“Pio worked for the team and even helped in midfield. Their humility is the most important thing.”

Chivu avoided over-hyping the league table, despite the symbolic value of the win.

“This was one of those matches that can shape a season,” he acknowledged.

“But it’s only October. We don’t look at others – we focus on ourselves.”

On the emotional post-match embrace between team and fans, including the Curva Nord’s full return to singing and chanting, Chivu smiled: “I just ended up in the middle of their celebrations. But we are a group. We’re all trying to take satisfaction from this season.”
