Former Serie A referee Graziano Cesari has blasted Rosario Abisso after last night’s clash between AC Milan and Fiorentina at San Siro.
During his latest interview via FCInterNews, Cesari underlined the double standards in Serie A.
The Rossoneri overturned a second-half deficit in a controversial 2-1 win over Stefano Pioli’s out-of-sorts side.
However, the VAR controversy overshadowed Milan’s fifth triumph in their last six league outings.
Furthermore, Rosario Abisso played a pivotal role in Livio Marinelli’s decision to hand Massimiliano Allegri’s side a late penalty.
Indeed, he urged the main referee to review the incident in Fiorentina’s penalty area after Marelli allowed play to continue.
Marelli refused to sanction Fabiano Parisi for ‘slapping’ Santiago Gimenez’s face at first glance.
Yet, after reviewing the situation with VAR, he changed his decision, allowing Rafael Leao to complete his brace.
Meanwhile, Abisso was radio-silent in a similar incident that took place during Inter Milan’s loss at Juventus last month.
He refused to call Andrea Colombo, even though Khephren Thuram did a similar thing to Ange-Yoan Bonny, which went unpunished.

“Rocchi had said, after Juventus-Inter, that Adzic’s goal was regular because the blow to Bonny’s chin could not cause a foul,” Cesari stated.
“He had said they would be very attentive to certain types of simulation. And in Turin, there were Mazzoleni and Abisso as VAR assistants.
“In four matchdays, do evaluations change like this? It’s not possible.
“Without fear of contradiction, for me, the AIA does not accept this situation; this is a mistake.”
In addition to sanctioning a soft foul, Abisso overlooked Gimenez’s misconduct after hitting the ground.
Indeed, the Mexican striker kicked Luca Ranieri while on the floor, which could’ve easily earned him a red card.
“Moreover, once hit, Gimenez kicks Ranieri from the ground. Aren’t we punishing anything?”
