Beppe Bergomi has heaped praise on Inter Milan following Saturday’s nerve-shredding 1-0 Serie A win over Roma.

Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri legend hailed the team’s unity after a precious victory at the Stadio Olimpico.

High-flying striker Ange-Yoan Bonny opened the scoring in the sixth minute after expertly avoiding the offside trap.

Little did anyone know that it would be the final score.

However, both sides squandered their chances to change the scoreline in a dramatic contest in the capital.

As a result, Inter posted their sixth consecutive win in all competition and fourth in Serie A since losing at Juventus in late September.

More importantly, Cristian Chivu’s charges have leapfrogged both Napoli and Roma in the standings.

Indeed, they now trail new pacesetters AC Milan by a single point, with only goal difference separating them from the two abovementioned rivals.

Meanwhile, Inter are seemingly back on track after Chivu’s stuttering start in the dugout.

“What I liked most was the final embrace between Cristian Chivu and Barella,” Bergomi stated. “Because Inter needed to be re-motivated and erase the memory of last season’s ending.

“When this team is physically fit, it’s strong. But you have to maintain that level over 60 matches to go all the way.

“If they had conceded the equalizer, what would we have said? That they still fade at the end.

“The team is the same, but the real change from last year to this year is the defensive line, which tries to stay higher.

“In defense, they didn’t bring in a youngster, but someone more functional like Akanji compared to the last Pavard, not the one from his first year.

“There’s been an improvement.

“When you come from 3-4 years at Manchester City with Guardiola, you come here, play, and play well,” Bergomi concluded.
