Inter Milan would reportedly be open to selling veteran center-back Francesco Acerbi in the January transfer window.

According to Tuttosport via FCInter1908, there’s a possibility for the 37-year-old to sever ties with the San Siro outfit this winter.

Francesco Acerbi used to be the cornerstone of Inter’s defense during Simone Inzaghi’s regime.

However, after a promising start under Cristian Chivu, he has lost his starting berth this season.

Indeed, before starting in Inter’s 2-0 home win over Lazio last weekend, he had been on the bench for three consecutive matches.

Acerbi’s contract at Giuseppe Meazza runs out at the end of the season.

Given his age, the Nerazzurri are reluctant to offer him a new deal despite his experience and dressing-room status.

Furthermore, Acerbi has no intention of playing second fiddle to anyone.

Instead, the former Lazio center-back is keen to return to the national team as Italy bid to qualify for next summer’s FIFA World Cup.

Therefore, he might seek a way out in January unless he regains his starting berth in the meantime.
