Hakan Calhanoglu will not feature for Turkey in their final World Cup qualifying match against Spain, raising understandable concern at Inter as the derby approaches.
The midfielder had been expected to start, but the Turkish FA has now officially ruled him out after he suffered a wrist injury during the match against Bulgaria.
For Inter, the decision brings mixed emotions.
On one hand, avoiding unnecessary minutes in what is effectively a dead rubber could protect one of their key players.
Especially ahead of next weekend’s clash with Milan.
On the other hand, any injury to Calhanoglu, the heartbeat of Cristian Chivu’s midfield, is enough to cause tension at Appiano Gentile.
Indeed, with the player already managing a heavy workload this season.
Turkey Confirm Inter Man Calhanoglu To Miss Spain Clash

Turkey confirmed the news in an official statement, via FCInterNews, explaining.
“Calhanoglu has been excluded due to a right-wrist injury sustained during the match against Bulgaria.”
The federation also confirmed youngsters Vural and Akçiçek have been added to the squad list in his place.
Inter will now await updates from the Turkish medical staff as they assess the severity of the injury.
With the derby eight days away, the Nerazzurri hope Calhanoglu’s withdrawal is purely precautionary.
Indeed, rather than a sign of something more serious.
