The Milan derby this Sunday is already attracting attention across Italy, but for former Rossoneri striker Andriy Shevchenko, the clash between Cristian Chivu led Inter and Milan is not yet a season-defining event.
Speaking to La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, the Ukrainian legend reflected on both teams’ current form and the challenges facing Stefano Pioli’s side.
Shevchenko believes Inter’s consistency under new coach Cristian Chivu gives them an edge over Milan.
While both teams are performing well, he sees the Rossoneri as slightly more vulnerable.
“All teams are in good form, but achieving a result is more important for Milan, who remain a bit more fragile than Inter,” he explained.
According to Shevchenko, any defeat could slow Milan’s progress and affect their confidence in the early stages of the campaign.
Shevchenko Praises Inter Milan Progress Under Chivu

On Inter, the former Chelsea and Milan forward praised the club’s continuity and Chivu’s leadership.
“At the start of the season, Inter carried some uncertainties. Now they are a different team. The squad has remained largely intact, and they have even strengthened.
“Chivu seems like a coach with a clear footballing vision and the right ideas. They are among the favorites for the Scudetto,” he added.
With the derby looming, Shevchenko’s assessment suggests Inter enter the match with both confidence and momentum.
Meanwhile, Milan must continue their development under pressure to maintain their competitive edge.
