Inter Milan have appointed 2010 treble winner Cristian Chivu as the club’s new coach to replace Simone Inzaghi.
The Nerazzurri confirmed the Romanian’s appointment in an announcement on their homepage. He has signed a two-year contract until the end of June 2027.
Inter Milan have spent the past few days searching for a new coach.
Earlier this week, Simone Inzaghi confirmed that he was stepping down as coach. The 49-year-old joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.
There were a few notable candidates on Inter’s shortlist, according to reports.
The Nerazzurri had been working on snapping up Cesc Fabregas to become Inzaghi’s successor.
However, Como President Mirwan Suwarson strongly rebuffed the Nerazzurri’s interest, and stated that the Lariani would refuse to release the Spaniard.
Meanwhile, Genoa coach Patrick Vieira was another name reportedly on Inter’s shortlist.
Official – Inter Milan Appoint Cristian Chivu As New Coach

But in the end, it is Cristian Chivu who Inter have appointed as their new coach.
The Romanian had already had a long association with Inter going back to his playing days.
Chivu joined the Nerazzurri from Roma in the summer of 2007. Along with the Giallorossi, he had also previously played for Ajax.
Chivu would spent six seasons playing for Inter before hanging up his boots.
Then in 2019, the former defender returned to Inter Milan to coach at various youth team levels. In 2021 he became the coach of the Primavera, or Under-19 team, a role he held for three seasons.
This campaign, Chivu became the head coach of Parma, replacing Fabio Pecchia in midseason. This was his first senior coaching position.
Chivu guided the Gialloblu to Serie A safety after a bad run of form under Pecchia had put them in a precarious position.
The thirteen matches that Chivu was in charge of Parma for constitute his only senior coaching experience. Therefore, the 44-year-old will have a lot to prove with Inter.
As a player, meanwhile, as a player Chivu made 168 appearances for Inter across all competitions. He scored three goals for the club.
Notably, the Romanian helped Inter to the European Treble of the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League in the 2009-10 season. He started against Bayern Munich in that Champions League final.
well appointing club legend as coach isnt something new. our neighbor, melon, did it many times but its not going well for them. so i hope we n shifu have more luck together.
personaly i expect its chuchu from our legend list that have great future as manager, but i wont mind if its shifu.
Good luck Chivu, I wish you didn’t accept the job but true inter fans know you love the club to the core. While I hope you will win many trophies I am afraid that you will fail. It is very simple, the pressure too much and inter is cheap.
his versatility, compatibility and adaptability in different positions, also how he read games make me confident of him as player. now I hope he can do well too as head coach. good luck!!
Cant wait to see Inter with him play. Good luck and best wishes Grandi
We all love chivu as a player and a person but he is not the right man to coach inter at this time.
We are ucl finalist and should’ve gone for a better coach, only when we have had good coaches have we won something.
Inter stupidly let Inzaghi leave for free when he had 1 year left, we didn’t ask for a fee, then we expected como to do the same with fabregas and they obviously said no, as they should. Yet we were too cheap to pay his contract fee. Chivu don’t even have a half a season in serie a as a coach smh…
Mancini was available for free as well.
If we get any Parma level players, relegation team level, we are doomed, remember Asslani was Empoli’s best player when he was was them and he sucks with us.
I hope chivu does well but I can honestly say it was too early for him to join us and the pressure will be too much, we shall see if I’m right or wrong. I hope I’m wrong.
Also remember, inter management keep saying they believe in chivu, they are proud and it’s a brave move and bla bla bla and yet they only gave him a 2 year contract so when they have to fire him they only pay him a small fee to be released. If you believe in him as much as you claim he should’ve atleast got 3 years, that what we gave Conte and Inzaghi when we signed them.
give him chance ffs, wheres the slogan we believe in marota has gone?
good luck Mister Interista Chivu
Welcome Christian and Good Luck!!!!
Welcome Chivu!!!! Tough situation, great courage to take this position!
I wish you luck and I hope you manage to get rid of all leeches in inter team and bring the players you want! They cant be worse than Inzaghi demands…. Correa!!! the only player Inzaghi personally requested and on top of that on already agreed Thuram…he said Correa is better because Thuram gets injured more often…well …ok
you can sleep well tonight cus correa moved to brazil
Arna also confirmed to leave.. Acerbi maybe leave soon..
Welcome!
I truly wish him all the best and hope he becomes our next great manager.
Would be epic story if a man who won the treable with us comes back and repeats it as a coach !
Good luck legend. We wish you success and all the luck.
Welcome Chivu..
I can’t remember when was the last time Inter coached by its former player or legend. Maybe Luigi Simone, sometimes in mid of 90s. Some legends was succeed in theie former team, like Guardiola, Zidane, Conte; of course some failed. Hope he learns fastly.
Let’s wish him best of luck.. Let’s not put pressure, is a very difficult summer with most of the squad tired, disappointed and confused…
