An ankle injury will reportedly rule Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries out of Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri could be without the Dutch wingback for an extended period.

Though Dumfries’ injury seemed innocuous at first, the 29-year-old could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Indeed, he suffered an ankle injury during Inter’s 2-0 win over Lazio on the eve of the November international break.

As a result, Ronald Koeman released him from the Dutch camp to help him recover.

Despite his early return to San Siro, Denzel Dumfries was unavailable for last night’s 1-0 Derby della Madonnina heartbreak.

However, Cristian Chivu may not be able to call upon his starting wingback until late December.

Therefore, Dumfries will not travel to Madrid with the rest of the team on Wednesday.

Furthermore, he could miss the upcoming Serie A matches against Pisa and Como.

As such, now might be the perfect time for Luis Henrique to prove his worth to Chivu.
