Yann Sommer could reportedly start Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan on the bench.
According to Sky Sport via FCInter1908, Cristian Chivu is considering benching his first-choice goalkeeper.
Despite sticking with Yann Sommer as his starting shot-stopper after September’s loss at Juventus, Chivu could make a change on Wednesday.
Indeed, the 36-year-old veteran produced another underwhelming performance in last night’s 1-0 loss to AC Milan.
Sommer’s disappointing reaction helped the Rossoneri topple Inter against the odds.

Though Sommer had made several promising performances before the international break, he faltered when Inter needed him most.
As a result of another grave mistake, the former Bayern Munich goalkeeper could lose his starting berth this midweek.
With Inter taking on Atletico Madrid in a high-stakes clash, Josep Martinez could return between the sticks.
The Spaniard’s last appearance dates back to late September.
Furthermore, he is still mentally recovering from a tragic car accident last month.
However, Chivu is open to giving him another opportunity to re-establish himself.

Sommer was never long-term solution, as a short-term solution after Onana he did great up until final matches of last season. Transition should have been made over summer, selling Martinez, leaving Sommer as backup and bringing younger gk. Once more we are late with offloading players with downward career path (Acerbi, de Vrij, Darmian, Hakan, Zielinski, Sensi, Sanchez, Arna, Correa…).
Do it! Bench him! We lost against Juve and Milan cause of him.
Inter should have signed Trubin from Benfica, instead of wasting money on LH.
Sommer to short and old with slow reflexes. Need younger and taller like Martinez
Sommer will be your downfall Chivu if you don’t manage this situation in the right way. You keep playing Sommer while Martinez is a good option. If you keep playing Sommer and not giving a proper chance you will be without a club by the end of the season
Martinez was getting playing time after the Juve game. I think he was on track of replacing Sommer until the accident. It’s understandable that Martinez was on the bench since being responsible for a death (even if accidental) can have a huge impact on one’s psyche.
